It is a unique project that takes listeners on a moving journey through the spiritual and cultural realms of traditional Jewish music and its unexpected sonic allies from around the globe.
At the heart of the evening are nigunim– wordless Hasidic prayers filled with mysticism and profound spirituality.
These meditative, multilayered melodies, rooted in Jewish tradition, are given new life through the interpretation of a vocal trio, accompanied by a group of three instrumentalists playing rare ethnic instruments such as the oud, darbuka, riq, daf, kamancheh, hurdy-gurdy, lute, hammered dulcimer, and the suka biłgorajska.
The concert is largely improvised, giving each performance a one-of-a-kind form – the music is born in the moment, shaped by the artists' attentiveness, shared breath, and emotional openness. While grounded in tradition, it is far from a museum-like re-creation – it draws on the vibrant sources of Middle Eastern, Balkan, and Sephardic music, as well as Latin American rhythms.
This is contemplative music, but not only that. It is also deeply emotional, full of pulsating energy and rhythm that moves not just the heart and soul, but the body as well. Many listeners may feel their feet itching to dance – for although this is spiritual music, it carries within it a tremendous vitality, joy, and the unifying power of community.
"Between Worlds" is an encounter with music that bridges heaven and earth, tradition and modernity, stillness and motion.
It is an evening that opens the heart – to oneself, to others, and to the world.
